Bespoke handmade audio visual cabinet for funeral director in Wadebridge, Cornwall

We have just completed an audio-visual installation in a renovated chapel in Wadebridge which has now become the new home for R.J.Bray Funeral Directors.  The installation required a stylish architecturally sensitive audio visual system for both the chapel used for services and the overflow room on the first floor.  A 55″ Smart screen shows an HD quality image of service proceedings downstairs via a Dahua eyeball camera which will soon have the capability to record services or allow them to be streamed to non attendees on the internet.  The...

Lottery funded audio-visual installation for Philleigh Village Hall

Philleigh Village Hall between St Mawes and Truro has benefited from a complete refurbishment using lottery funding.  This included a complete audio-visual installation by Kernow Installations including a 2.4m electric screen and projector, a hearing loop and a comprehensive sound system suitable for virtually anything including a disco!  Because the room will be used for many purposes, the equipment rack is on castors so that it can be stored in a cupboard.  All of the cabling has been pre-installed before the inner walls were finished resulting in a fine...

Audio Facelift at Probus Church between Truro & St Austell, Cornwall

Having installed the original sound system into Probus Parish Church some fifteen years ago, it was flattering that when the PCC wanted to give it an upgrade that they came back to us.  The upgrade involved replacing the wireless microphone systems with TOA 5000 series systems including a remote antenna to increase operating range, a couple of music input points at the front and rear of the church and the re-installation of the main equipment into an oak rack cabinet which tidied up the wiring.  Finally the insertion of...

Half a Ton of Interactive Screens in Exeter, Devon

We have recently been acting as sub-contractors to ICE Technology installing their interactive screens in schools across Devon and Cornwall replacing white boards which are now considered obsolete.  ICE have been very happy with the quality of our installations and it looks like we’ll be continuing as their preferred installer.  Most of the screens to date have been 65″ which weigh in at around 95kg.  However on one day this week, we had the challenge of four 80″ interactive screens weighing in at 135kg each.  Although we had allowed two...

Viking Voyagers opening ceremony at National Maritime Museum Cornwall

With a tightly controlled budget and a short time-frame in which to work, Kernow AV Installations appear to have pulled off a very successful opening ceremony for the new Viking Voyagers 2-year exhibition at The National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth which has involved museums from across Europe.  Due to the value of the some of the exhibits, any haze, smoke, pyros and the like had been ruled out so we were constrained to some lighting and our FBT PA system which sounded like Thor himself had turned up!...

New Stage Sound System for Helston Community College

Helston Community College benefited from a new stage sound system last month.  They required a simple to operate system for day-to-day use but be able to run the system with a larger desk-type mixer for school productions and similar large events.  Using FBT Verve speakers, a very flexible Stageline 1U mixer, DBX graphic equalisers and a Crown amplifier, the rack mounted system just needs turning on at the mains for the TOA wireless microphone systems to work along with a 3.5mm jack input for laptop audio.  An 8-way stage...

Audio Visual installation at China Fleet Club, Saltash

The China Fleet Golf & Country Club has continued its improvement programme with the replacement of its TVs in the gymnasium and reception areas. Kernow Installations have already overhauled the site-wide PA system and the audio visual systems in the conference/function rooms and installed new audio and LED lighting systems in the Cycle Aerobics Suite. The LG LED TVs have almost no bezels and look really sleek. There are more improvements planned for this fabulous venue....

Radio Communications for The Great North Run

Stephen Gilbert was working away again at the beginning of this month.  On this occasion it was in Newcastle working for Delta Comm providing radio and comms systems for the opening ceremony of the Great North Run.  It was a spectacular event with a massive firework display and numerous other special effects combined with performances from Mark Knopfler, Sting, Chase & Status and Ant & Dec (or is it Dec & Ant, never could tell the...

New sound reinforcement public address system for equestrian centre in Totnes, Devon

The Mare & Foal Sanctuary has benefitted from a complete upgrade to its sound system courtesy of Kernow Installations. DNH speakers were used throughout as they are renowned for their performance and reliability both indoors and outdoors. The DNH CAS6T speakers in the arenas seated area are particularly effective. Kernow Installations have acquired a reputation for audio hire and installation for equestrian events and venues throughout Devon and Cornwall....

Equestrian PA and Communications Hire for BE event on the Devon Cornwall Border

Kernow Installations have just provided a complete communications package for the second year at the BE event held at St Leonard’s Equitation Centre in Launceston. The package for the one day event included site wide public address coverage, radios, a telephone system and a traffic light for the cross-country start. The weather was excellent and everything went extremely well. With considerable praise from the BE officials for the quality of the ‘comms’ we are looking forward to more equine events in the future....

Radio Hire in Mons, Belgium for Great War Commemoration

Stephen Gilbert is currently running the radio shack at the initial commemoration event for the centenary of the Great War, World War I. Working for Delta Comms he is providing all site radios for the BBC’s production at the St Symphorien Cemetery on the outskirts of Mons where both British and German graves lie side by side. It is the resting place of both the first and last British soldiers to be killed in the four year war which demonstrates just how futile the whole thing was. The evening...

Comms for Tour De France in Yorkshire

Stephen Gilbert has been working as a Comms (communications) engineer in Yorkshire during Le Grand Depart, It involved a lot of radios, digital comms panels over Ethernet and varying means to secure the essential broadband across the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, villages and towns. This included Cat5 cable, fibre optic cable, microwave dishes and even satellite dishes. It was a challenging project but Stephen thoroughly enjoyed it and returned with a lot of new skills and great memories. This slideshow requires...

We’ve installed 50 Churches and Chapels in Devon & Cornwall with Audio

Last week saw us complete our 50th church/chapel installation (we didn’t include our work at Truro Cathedral). Lansallos Parish Church between Polperro and Polruan in Cornwall benefited from a complete new sound reinforcement system combined with an induction loop system for the hard of hearing. As with all of our church installations throughout Devon & Cornwall, every effort is made to ensure that the installation can be heard but not seen. To this end we use TOA slimline line array speakers that provide extensive even sound coverage from a...

FBT Verve Audio Installation for Holiday Park in North Devon

A completely new sound system has been installed in a completely new and highly impressive clubroom at Twitchen Holiday Park, Woolacombe Bay in North Devon.  Not so much of a clubroom as a leisure complex.  The clubroom sound system has been based around the FBT Verve active speaker range which has provided excellent audio quality from a medium priced product.  Being Italian designed and built, it’s no wonder that they also look rather good! We have used a combination of Verve 110A active (powered) 10″ speakers in white with...

Sound Reinforcement for Matthew Parris in Launceston

Today I met Matthew Parris, journalist, presenter and former MP. We provided the sound reinforcement for an event at the Arundel Arms Hotel, Lifton at which Matthew was the guest speaker and very good he was too. The event was a celebration of the first years trading of Folk 2 Folk, a Launceston based company that brokers loans between local lenders and borrowers. Having lent £23 million in the last twelve months without any defaults and with a return of 7% approx for the lender it’s no wonder they’re...
